G3PO AI is OpenAI’s answer to Microsoft x Meta’s Llama 2 AI
G3PO does not have a release date yet.
The battle of AIs is fascinating. Ever since Microsoft announced that it will implement AI in its products, including Windows 11, a lot of tech giants, including Meta, and Twitter wanted to be a part of it, one way or the other.
Microsoft has been at the forefront of AI right from the start and now the Redmond-based tech giant is surely integrating AI in everything Microsoft-related. For example, Microsoft Store is getting AI help, and it will be able to automatically summarize reviews for you. This way you won’t have to go through all of them.
Not to mention, the research Microsoft has funded on AI. From LongMem to Kosmos-2, AI is getting close to AGI by the day. So it’s safe to say, Microsoft has the decisive word on AI.
Even more, Meta is already collaborating with Microsoft in an AI partnership, and their collaboration focuses on Llama 2, which is an open-source AI model with 70 billion parameters available. With it, you’ll be able to build and train your own AI model.
And now, it seems that OpenAI, the company behind the popular ChatGPT, is also coming with its own open-source large language model (LLM), codenamed G3PO, according to the latest reports.
OpenAI’s G3PO – what we know so far about this AI language
Firstly, G3PO is a codename for the LLM model developed by OpenAI. Apparently, the Microsoft x Meta AI partnership put a lot of pressure on the other tech players, Google and OpenAI including. Llama 2 will be open source, but it also comes with a commercial license, allowing anyone to utilize and profit from it.
OpenAI has been keen on releasing an open-source LLM for quite some time now, and it seems G3PO is finally that product. However, meanwhile, it will have to compete with Llama 2 and possibly other LLMs.
While the project has a codename, unfortunately, it doesn’t have a release date for now. It seems that OpenAI might be thinking about other endeavors. Recently, the company has established a group, Superalignment project, which wants to achieve AGI in 4 years from now.
Plus, there are rumors that the company might launch an app store, and a personalized version of ChatGPT, soon. So for now, G3PO is just one of their many projects.
However, as the battle of AI intensifies, we need to ask: who’s going to achieve AGI first?
